Hotels - New Caledonia
This is an excellent example of a small "boutique resort" built on a remote island off New Caledonia. We were told that "it couldn't be done" due to the difficulty of the location and lack of infrastructure.
All of the materials for this resort, including septic systems, were shipped by barge from Australia. A digger on board the barge dug a channel in order to gain access to the island! A crew of 6-10 Australians from Force 10, along with local labor, put up 12 duplexes, a dive shop, restaurant, and General Managers office in 14 weeks. Within six months, a charming dive resort existed in a previously undeveloped location.
